Lukas' Adventure - NEWEST BLOG POST
ONE YEAR...CANCERVERSARY!
One year since we went to our pediatrician’s office for the red spots on his neck.
One year since we were sent to get blood work done.
One year since we were rushed off to Lutheran General to get more extensive testing done.
One year since we first heard the words “there is something wrong with his blood work.”
One year since we met an Oncologist.
One year since we heard “CANCER”.
One year since we heard “acute lymphoblastic leukemia”.
One year ago, today our seemingly perfectly healthy 20-month-old Lukas was diagnosed with cancer.
It’s been one year since our entire world as we knew it fell apart.

warrior SamuelMeet Samuel, a sweet little warrior who was diagnosed with VHR B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on August 6, 2019, just 1 week before his family had planned to take their first trip to Disney World. Unfortunately, that trip never happened when Samuel’s cancer aggressively made itself present. After not fully responding to treatment in the initial phase, Induction, Samuel’s treatment has since been adjusted and he is now in Part 1 of Delayed Intensification. He is a such strong little warrior, he had an allergic reaction to pegaspargase, so Samuel now has to endure painful Erwinia shots throughout his 3.5 year treatment protocol among other intense chemotherapies.
Samuel has a 20 month old little brother, Luke, and parents, Joe and Dawn, that love him so incredibly much. I met Samuel’s mom through social media, I was able to connect with her and share my experiences I had gone through with Lukas. We both have been there for each other through this whole journey! I am so fortunate that we have the friendship that we do. Our families later connected in clinic at Advocate Children’s Hospital in Park Ridge. Our boys immediately bonded, laughed and played. They both received chemotherapy together on Halloween in full costume. From Samuel’s mom Dawn: “Our goofy and smart boy is such a little champion, he has always been. There is so much change and hard painful times during this journey and Samuel has been so observant, curious, and rolled with all the punches. I’m so truly bless that this little boy is my son. His strength amazes me everyday.” Samuel is such a sweet kid. Soft spoken but a smile that will light up the world. His family appreciates all the love, support, thoughts, and prayers! Samuel Strong!
